 Yes, _downgrading_ a strong engine is stupid.
But what do you mean by "downgrading"? Adding a possibility to adjust it's
playing strength and playing with different personalities?
Then what about commercial chess programs which also have personality
settings, or what about ProDeo for example?
 IMHO much more stupid is having a super-strong chess engine and just looking
at engine-engine matches and watching how effectively it crushes the weaker
ones. If that's only what you want, then you don't need another clone of Fruit,
just wait until Toga becomes stronger.
