Subject: About Poll Question - Computer Vs.

Author: Micheal Cummings

I had to abstain from this question because I do not think in all cases players
should get access to programs.

Like the Kasparov - Deep Blue match, he could have been given examples of it
previous games played but should not be able to have a practice against before
hand or have access.

This is different with programs such as Fritz and Hiarcs and Rebel, etc, which
are available at all good stores and mean anyone can play with them if they are
to play these programs beforehand.

So this question is not defined as to if you were asking about all programs,
even ones played on super computers, or just normal software, which I do not
think is the case because they would be able to get their hands on it anyway,
and thus the question would cancel itself.

So in answer to all programs, I would go from Abstain to no.

In a few little tournaments I have played I never got the chance to have a
practice against people I was then going to play against, I saw some of their
games, but I have no right to ask them for access to themselves because I want
to find out how they play.

And do these poll questions have any thought put into them, the one against The
Human Vs Hiarcs7 post was only posted about a day ago, I think much more
questions could be asked, you could even ask again some relevant previous
questions, about which program do you think will be the strongest. I am sure
with all the new versions of programs out and with some time for people to look
and play over them that opinions might have changed.

I think with all that goes on with computer chess that many more questions could
be asked, the polls used to be interesting with quite a few questions, but now
it is as about as dead as the computer chess report page, I never go there
anymore, cause nothing is ever in there.
