Ebay is of course not a possibility
you yourself said that Ebay is nothing more then a cess pool of rouges and
thieves
if you try to sell you will not be paid and if you are paid they will complain
the chess set is damamged
even one sale will carry with it 114 emails lasting for one year

as i am a much younger man then the one described in your post(i will soon turn
28) i can understand your dilemma

for my opinion..you should give this cherished artifact to a younger man
(someone my age) because if you give it to this older man ,he will soon die and
his wife will only sell it after his death for $15 in a garage sale in the front
lawn of the home

My Wise Thoughts Regards
