I think that in some ways authors and book cookers have trouble working
together because authors are fundamentally CS/programmer types while book
cookers are usually more interested in chess itself, leading to a bit of a
personality clash. In a lot of ways I don't think that book cookers and authors
really work together: we authors just pray that we get out of book in an OK
position so that our engines can do their thing, and book cookers just pray
that the engine doesn't screw up the beautiful position they gave it. Some of
us even have to work with bookers *cough* Erdogan *cough* who complain every
time the score drops :)

I was pretty impressed with your work during the WCCC, especially
considering the short notice you had, and if I didn't already have the best
booker in the business working with me already, I'd probably be sending you an
email. I'm sure that if you want to continue making opening books you can find
a team to work with.

I wish we would see fewer of these posts airing dirty laundry in CCC
(although I have been guilty of doing it myself). I guess while I'm wishing, I
might as well wish that I would win the lottery. Anyway, I hope you patch
things up with Fabien. He's really a nice guy, as you know already.

cheers,

anthony

P.S. I analyzed one of Fruit's moves that you criticized (Nd2 against Diep).
Zappa also plays Nd2 even at 18 ply (some hours). Don't you think that Nd2 is
going to happen anyway? The knight is not that well positioned on b3, and Black
will always play a4. I don't remember the exact analysis, but I think Zappa's
PV was Nd2 a4 Rg4 a3 b3 and then Nc4 and moving the Queen to the h file. So
Zappa at least thinks that the mistake was not Nd2 but Ne4.
