To me this sounds like an anti-lag problem. Internet servers usually provide a defense against lag (I know for FICS, and only guess for ICC) that has to be integrated to the local interface (chess GUI). PolyGlot does not connect directly to chess servers and therefore is most likely not responsible for the problem. Obvious question: which interface was being used? For FICS, an external binary like "timeseal" is needed. Fabien.
