I think that it is also possible to do opening preperation against everyone and guess the opponent by the opening but after the new rules of the ssdf this is more easy because you do not need to guess the opponent by the opening. I do not think that programs did serious opening preperations in the past because of at least one of 2 reasons: 1)They had not enough money to buy computers and play 1000 games against every opponent. 2)They did not want to win games by this way. I usually do not see 19:1 results in the ssdf games even in matches of top programs against Fritz3(P90) so I believe that noone use serious opening preperation. I believe that most of the programmers simply do not want to do it because people will see it and feel that they cheat. Some programmers probably want to do it but have not enough money to earn 200 ELO rating from this. Uri
