Ryan, forgive me as a near patzer and total outsider for intervening here.

In my experience in something like chess, competition is usually a more
efficient selective evolutionary process than symbiosis or co-operation.

What is wrong in the two offspring being antagonistic rivals? Won't that result
in one or maybe two better chess engines than a co-op?

Slurs can spur, as they say somewhere. :)

Best, with a fine chianti,

A.S.
