Subject: Collector's Corner..On The Unscrupulous Collector

Sometimes a Collector will go to unusual lengths to find a computer he is long
searching for

here is an example:(TRUE STORY)

a Collector and friend (that lives not far from me) once went rifling through
old issues of Computer Chess Reports(published by ICD) where there used to be a
small section for selling or trading used chess computers

ICD provided this space in their quarterly reports to enable people to sell
/trade their computers so they could defray the cost of buying the newer model
or an upgraded model

one day....not long ago..he came across a computer for sale that today would be
considered very hard to find.

the ad was placed perhaps 15-20 years earlier

out of pure desperation he called the number provided in the ad,thinking the
chances of the same person picking up the phone ,that placed the ad ,was less
then remote

lo and behold an old man answers and it was the same guy AND he still had the
computer!

the collector makes up a tale that he received this computer as an inheritance
from a dead relative that he loved very dearly and now it is defective and he
wants ever so desperately to replace it

would he perhaps be willing to sell it to him?

the old man was more then happy to sell it AND at a ridiculously low price, not
knowing the true value of it today

the story ,if it ended here ,would be enough to illustrate how low some
collectors will stoop to get a rare computer

but the story does not end here..

i,upon hearing of all of this ,immediately call this old man(i have that issue
as well)..TRIPLED the offer..and well..

:)))))) Regards
Steve
