That was not chess. It was some shuffleboard. The perpetrator (B) is, I think, one of the many very weak players here. Your choice of opening played into his hands. This will no doubt also be told to you by many others. But for me (who is described by forum "experts" as merely a "patzer"; their grounds for doing this seem a little shaky ^wink^) Fruit 2.2.x is the easiest top engine to beat for a few years. Against F9, S9, my score (playing them under strictest conditions) is poorer than 50%, but I am working these upwards. But against Fruit 2.2.x (trial version), my score is now almost 80%, which is crushing. And I never use the non-chessic methods shown in your loss above. I win by squeezing it hard and not letting go and without allowing counterplay (as best I can). This technique does not work at all reliably against F9 and S9 because (as a "patzer", of course!) I am not perfect at squeezing hard without letting go and banning counterplay. I have read that others too have my experience with it. Fruit 2.2.x is brilliant against other engines, but against humans above a certain level, it eventually folds. Maybe it is because Fruit plays more like we humans do? I do not know. I just know it is not a real challenge for me in the sense that Shredder 9.1 is. Please do not be too respectful of these machines. Their rating lists are very inflated, and for many reasons the man vs machine events also have results which greatly overstate their strength. Few, if any, play at the level of a top-10 GM, irrespective of hardware. Deep Blue II, now, was another type of thing. Best, A.S.
