Yes, you give a good example for the problems such someone has in his public presentation. Let's take for a second that he is Nigel S. You remember his Bobby Fischer thing. You can debate this through but the core remains the same as in this action now. It's just fun. It's playing on the piano of public appearances. The public will take its time to find explanations, interpretations and death verdicts. Nothing to do with chess. In arts you see the same mechanism. In the sixties it was called "happenings". Or remember McLuhan with his theories about messages. All that is the base for such events. If a prominent chessplayer would enter CCC just normally like Ricky Dick and would write his authetic profile would you want to imagine what would happen THEN? For me it's clear. There is only one in the chessworld like Nigel with his sense for provocations and messages in a message. Already forgotten his yellow hair style? And then you cant seperate a certain milieu of chess knowies, dont forget FF from CHessBase, who have such ideas, in politics we would call it spin doctor creativity. You say he didnt answer your reasonable statement comme il faut. Possible. But how should he react? I read some of his message in the aftermath and I saw his style and class in almost every single line. He always balanced between having a "normal" conversation and caring for not giving away too much. But you know a knowie can play dumb, but a dumb cant play a knowie. A knowie will always discover another knowie's class. A Brit almost naturally, if he had a minimum of education, will like to write in that twinkled self-amusing ironic style that alone is a proof for smartness. And this is also the main reason why people feel offended if they dont quite get it what he wantede to say. It is an interesting phenomenon that I as a foreign English speaker could directly detect what was going on. Although I just have a vocabulary of 200 words maximum. I understand Americans without even reading them but this English is a little play in itself. If you ever heard Nigel in his high-nosed idiom you get the drift. Think of the idiocy if he had presented his authentic self. Would you have believed him if he had said the chess stuff in the same manner? Just because you then had known his rankings? Or wouldn't it have urned into the never-ending circle that he had felt forced at first to educate the chess knowledge here before he could have started to say a single judgement? The message is the message just like a chessgame. But other than in analysing a chessgame with PCs here you must have qualifications you cant get automatically. Look please, I have no idea who wrote all that. But from its melody, from its *message*, from its fun there is only one solution and I gave it away. We wont get the real real real solution. But with our differing own class we can make hypotheses. Isnt that fun? That's the internet! Writing AS Short. He made a joly wordplay. He is one of the five. And then he added but I'm none of them. Of course. A.S. was none of them. But this is the same with all of us. Do we know who we REALLY are? But this is a topic for a new thread or also RL (real life). Thanks for being in the debate. Rolf
