Since when is being condescending a crime worthy of flames and moderation?  In
any case, I think you are greatly exaggerating how insulting he was and greatly
diminishing the contributions he made.  There is a big difference between
"difficult to grasp for patzers like you" and "you fucking idiot".  The first is
a polite jab, the second is just nasty.
