Some insight information: the chessmaster firm doesn't care about such tournaments, so doesn't support Johan in joining Paderborn june 99. Johan doesn't like to pay 500 dollar himselve entry fee. The additional costs he would perhaps want to pay (hotel, food). Further a big note that The King although very strong is playing a very speculative kind of chess. Johan for sure can't bring the fastest hardware. The King has a cool activity control function in its evaluation. The King gave away a pawn against DIEP in dutch open in order to open up the position and a few attacks to kingside, and that pawn lost the game for The King quite soon, as it wasn't able to make a fist kingside. Speculative play like done by The King, Tal, Hiarcs is very dumb against Zugzwang, P.Conners, SOS, Ferret and all other parallel programs except Cilkchess who needs to work at their king safety and search depth.
