I am currently running a best of 30 between Fritz 9 and Rybka 32 bit. 40 moves/20 min. repeating. 128mb hash, ponder off. Fritz is using his own book, and Rybka is using Perfect 9, as i test programs, not engines. I discussed this with Graham before i started, and he was adamant that Perfect 9 was the book to give Rybka. I told him i would probably get a lot of flak if Fritz won about the book Rybka was using. He said he woudl stand behind me 100% on that. The good news for Rybka is that in the first 3 games he had 2 wins and a draw. The bad news is in the next 8 or 9 games he has only managed one win. It did not take Fritz too long to figure him out. I have watched all the games and analyzed them closely, and Rybka is truly strong. Does he have a chance to win this match. Not hardly, inmy opinion. He comes out of the openings in great position, but his analysis is suspect. Example: toward the end of the middle game in one he analyzed the position as him being up 3.25. Fritz analyzed it as even. Guess who was right. Rybka never even considered what was coming in any of his lines. It has been my experience that does not bode well for a program in the long run. My thinking is they have a very strong program here, not quite up to the level of Toga, Fritz and Fruit yet. They may have possiibly jumped the gun and put him out too soon without waiting on that next reported update. He has some analysis problems that need to be dealt with. At the expense of possibly starting a holy war, is he strong- yes. Is he the second coming of Christ at this point intime -not hardly. Needs more fine tuning in the middle and end game. I will have the games available for anyone who wants to email me- i will send the complete package to you in a zip. Keep you posted. George
