It doesn't need to calculate anything, which rarely changes its first choice. This is a great strength at faster time controls, but I wonder about slow time controls such as in correspondence chess where players let their machines run overnight to obtain the best move for a position. Perhaps Shredder, Fruit, or Fritz are better in that situation. Also based on various reports we must also switch to a different engine (not Rybka) as the endgame approaches. So maybe Rybka is an engine to be used only in the middlegame. I use my own opening book anyway. WP
