I've seen the criticism of this table being hard to understand before, I don't know if it was by you or not. The column headers seem obvious to me, so here is what I think they mean: Column 1: # The rank of the engine in this table. Column 2: Name The name of the engine. Column 3: bayeselo 0052.15 The program used to calculate the ELO numbers below. All adjusted by a constant amount to keep Shredder at 2750. Column 3.1: ELO The ELO rating of the engine using the above program. ELO is used to rate the strength of a chess player, if you need details you can search for them. Column 3.2: + There is an estimated 5% chance the true ELO will be no more that this much higher than what was in the previous column. Column 3.3: - There is an estimated 5% chance the true ELO will be no more that this much lower than what was in the column 3.1. Column 4: ELOstat 1.3 A different program used to calculate ELO numbers. Column 5: Score The average number of points scored in its games, where a win is one point and a draw is one-half point. Expressed as a percentage. Column 6: Av. Op. bayeselo The average ELO rating of opposing engines, but not adjusted to make Shredder 2750. This would be more useful if the adjusted ELO were given here. Column 7: Draws The proportion of games played ending in a draw, expressed as a percentage. Column 8: Games The number of games played. Column 9: Lost on time or crashed Number of times the engine lost on time or crashed. I do not know if this includes the number of draws when crashing or running out of time, assuming games are adjudicated as draws if there is insufficient material to mate.
