I think it is a shot at your disdain or supposed disdain over PC programs, and
your passion for Dedicated Units/Programs.

IMO Steve you're maybe too worked up about Rybka, albiet it has saturated these
pages for over 72 hrs. and that is the enthusiasm of the PC program posters, not
the author of the engine.

Honestly, the advertising he's done isn't a flagerant commercial exortation, a
violation of the charter, and it is not uncommon for a programmer before going
commercial to post info about his released work, or to allow for some beta
testing. Oh, and it was for one day only Steve, not five.

I know, so much hype it seems like 5;-)

Regardless, other than the clutter of posts I see no harm done. The is a place
for programmers and their creations as well as everyone else who is invovled in
computer chess. If they choose to do freeware, than go commercial, so be it.
This is actually helping the computer chess community, not hurting it or
undermining ICD or taking liberty with it. I know what you're thinking, and it
is advertising, free advertising, but only to a point. The author risks losing
money to many here as his target group posts here and many will be satisfied
with the Beta version. So in fact he pays. ICD really loses nothing, and in the
future some of the programs will be on CD ROM or DVD, and ICD may even carry
them!:o)

Live and Let Live Regards,
 Terry

Ed Trice with his Gothic Chess took it too far, but that's another story.
