I don't know where the "standard" is for FEN but in the above example it goes
something like this:
The [D] tells this place to make a diagram with what follows.
the r1b1k2r is the 8th rank and lower case letters indicate black pieces.  The
numbers indicate the number of empty squares before the next piece.  This
continues a rank at at time separated by the "/".  At the end the "w" indicates
white to move.  The other at the end I'm not sure of.  I think it indicates
possible castling privledges and other unknows stuff.  Most programs will supply
the FEN for any given position.
Maybe someone here can give you a web site for the FEN standard or explain
better than I can.
