You should have read the Trouble Shooter more carefully. The probable reason the
DGT board didn't recognize a piece or pieces correctly is due to where the
pieces are setup in the initial position. There are coloured circles on the
bottom of the pieces and the pawns are very sensitive on their starting ranks.
You need to alternate the pawns in relation to those colour patterns in order
for the DGT board to detect them. I know as I had the same problem. When I read
the Trouble Shooter it told me how to alternate the colour codes. This fixed the
problem. All my chess GUIs that supported the DGT board started to work normally
again.

As for Chessmaster, DGT has put out new software to operate within its GUI.
