This way I can play novelties without the fear of informing my opponents in 'real life'. 2: About openings ... My mechanical opponents are using extensive opening books. Being a mere human being I don't have the same privilege here at ICC. The result is a huge amount of annoying losses. 3: Computers are fast. But in this particular ICC-environment they are even faster, because , unlike us, they don't have to use a mouse. While we humans are struggling with unwilling muscles and the occasional mouseslips 'they' move with the speed of light and 100% accuracy. A time-handicap 4: for computers of let's say 0,5 sec/move would ease this injustice. - Imagine another setup. Imagine an outdoors blitz tournament where computers are compelled to move the pieces around with mechanical arms ; wasting time with every move. Who would be the favourites now ? - 5: I believe in 'normal chess'. I don't strive for closed positions, just because I'm playing a computer. I simply refuse to adapt my repertoire. On the other hand I cannot deny that closed positions (French, Czech Benoni, Stone Wall etc.) are very effective against machines. 6: Rounding up. First of all : solid repertoire keywords : 'modesty' 'careful' 'active when justified' 'simple positions' 'endgame'. 7: I hardly calculate any lengthy variations while playing computers; I'm just trying to 'sense' danger. Just try to 'feel' the position.
