Subject: polyglot and speed efficiency

I want to share some experiences I made with polyglot with other users.

I noticed when using the precompiled versions of polyglot that I get a around
50% reduced NPS of the engines I run them with compared with the selfcompiled
verions (just using the given makefile and adjusting mcpu=xxx with the correct
cpu).
This is true when I use the provided linux executable on my Athlon64 on 64bit
linux and the macintosh executable on the PowerPC G5. On contrary, the
precompiled versions don't burden the cpu very much, as if they were run at low
priority.
I have no ideas why polyglot behaves like that on my systems, maybe Fabien can
bring some insight into this. It made me curious and it would be useful if some
other users could recompile their verions and compare there versions to the
provided binaries.

I don't want to conclude without stating that I think polylgot is a very nice
utility.

Regards
Andy
