You have unfairly characterized Dr. Hyatt. He will make sharp remarks and he is gruff, I will grant you that. But he sort of escalates to whatever level is used against him. One thing you left out is that even a whinging twit will receive a favorable followup if they ask something on topic. Without sharp remarks, without condescending attitude and with the effort of someone who loves to teach. And this is even after they have blasted him unfairly on many occasions. The newsgroup news:rec.games.chess.computer is ruined. In fact, most of Usenet is going down the tubes. Look at news:sci.math, as it has become a sorry shadow of what it once was. Most newsgroups are now dominated by cranks, weirdos, terrorists and blithering idiots. The only newsgroup with much value for me anymore is news:comp.lang.c and I suspect in a few years that will be a refuse heap also. A sorry state and a reflection of the world in general, I am afraid.
