Anyway, long enough to know what the deal is. Bob is around because teaching is important to him. Occasionally, Bob will learn something too. He is not the only person with a lot of experience who posts here. I don't think that anyone denies he makes a valuable contribution. If someone posts something that he disagrees with, he may respond, saying so, and saying why. But the critique is of the comment, not the person. Sometimes, the first poster and Bob have a discussion. Everything is fine, sometimes they end up agreeing, sometimes they don't. But occasionally, the first poster decides they are more interested in personally attacking Bob. When someone is throwing mud at Bob, he doesn't sit there and take it, he takes his gloves off. In other words, the number of nasty arguments that Bob gets into is roughly equal to the number of times people leave the conversation at hand and begin a personal attack against him. Maybe Bob isn't "in the right" 100% of the time, but he is in the right one hell of a lot more often than his usual opponent. I mean, be serious. Rolf Tueschen? Sean Evans? Give me a break. I think your synopsis is completely wrong. Your post is riddled with factual errors. Its basis in reality is entirely questionable. Now, if you can distinguish between these comments and a personal attack, then you too are unlikely to have a slugfest with Bob. And if you can't, you might misinterpret one of his posts someday.
