What do you mean by "play chess" that humans do that is qualitatively different
than what computers do? Humans evaluate positions also, they just use their
vastly superior pattern recognition methods upon a protein substrate rather than
the more brute-force methods on a silicon subtrate the computers use.

The game of chess is a very limited domain - it's defined within an 8X8 board
and a small number of rules. Humans may do a lot of things currently that
computers cannot, but I don't grasp how "play chess" is one of them. You're
right - I don't "get it". Please enlighten me - define "play chess".
