I just ran crafty 12.9 for a couple weeks in place of my normal 16.x version.

Yes, I would. But this seems like an awful lot of work to prevent... 'graffiti'

This would take all the fun out of crafty for me. Crafty is only crafty because
it offers strenth, features, and modification ability all in 1 package :)
