Try Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs and then scroll down to Norton SystemWorks and click the "Change" button. This will bring up the screen that allows you to select features (same screen that you saw when you installed it originally) and you can mark it "Unavailable" where it has an 'X' through it and then you should be able to use a different virus checker.
