Dear George,

Eduard's advice is correct. You don't need a book when you already have another
commercial engine's book (especially an older one). You can use that, modify it,
or create your own book from scratch.

George, here's what I do. I already own several older CB engines. But, I'm no
longer interested in Shredder 7.32, since I have S 8 & 9. So, I've used the S 7
book for engines that have no book. I've altered the opening preferences to play
only openings that I want to see. And, I've added new theory, plus my own TNs,
to see how this book fares in battle against the top engines.

Besides, if you're interested in opening theory like I am, then you probably
won't be happy with most commercial engine's books anyway. That said, you might
increase your enjoyment in engines tournaments/matches via forcing the engine to
play lines you think interesting.

For example, let's just assume for argument that you like to see gambits. Now
you can make Rybka play the Smith-Morra and/or Wing Gambit against the Sicilian
and the Goering Gambit against the Spanish, and the Albin Counter Gambit against
1 d4. Anyway, you get the idea. Meanwhile, you still have your top commercial
engines and they still have their books. So the result will be some interesting
games and results.

In my tests, I've found that Fruit 2.2.1 does extremely well with the Black side
of the Modern/Pirc complex. This surprised me. I've also seen Shredder 7.32 and
Ruffian do very well with gambits. So, here's your chance to tell us what Rybka
performs well with.

That said, have fun!

All the best,

Steve
