Thanks.  I am exploring:
r4rk1/1bq1bppp/p1npp3/1pnB1N2/4P1P1/2N1B3/PPP1QP1P/2KR2R1 w - -
right now.
Sometimes, it is very helpful to know what the computer thinks about the
alternative positions, if a database of them is available.  Often, once the key
move is tried, the computer suddenly gets it.  It should not be surprising,
since it would be about 30 times easier to find it, on average.

BTW, how many plies away is the payoff?  That should be a big clue.  If it is
nearby, I bet that there is a null move situation hiding the goodies from sight.
