Well, a simple response to you is that I do not pay $50 to ICC to play
computers. I can play against computers on my own computer for free.
Not to mention playing computers is boring! Computers can never replace
the thrill of playing another human. The joy of winning against human opponent
is not the same as against computers.

Also, I would adopt a different playing strategy if I am playing a computer.
Computers and humans have a different playing style.

Let me give you another example. It's fun to chat with women on sex chat
servers, right? Now, suppose I set up a server on which you can chat with
my computer program that would pretend to be a woman and would respond
automatically to anything you type. Would that be the same as if chatting
with a real human? What is the difference after all? You can't see whether it is
a real female or automated program on the internet anyway. So what is the
difference? I hope you realize that there is a big difference, no matter how
intelligently the computer program chats, it would never be the same as if
chatting with a human. Computer chess programs are just like that. They cannot
replace the joy of playing against humans. They do not even play like humans.
