Subject: To all Commercial Chess Programmers

It has been said that in future many chess software like Rebel, Fritz,
Hiarcs would also connect to chess servers like ICC. Unfortunately, this
function would lead to serious abuse on chess servers. Cheating liars would
use this to abuse honest players on chess servers.

Therefore, I suggest that programmers should take the following safety steps.

(1) If someone is connected to ICC using future interface of Rebel or Fritz or
Hiarcs, all analysis functions should automatically get disabled as soon as the
person starts a game on ICC. When the game is finished, the interface should
come back to normal mode (i.e. allowing analysis and stuff).

(2) If someone wants to let Rebel or Fritz play on ICC, the interface should
check whether or not the person is connected to ICC with an account that has (C)
in it. If he is not connected to ICC with a (C) account, the interface should
warn the person and not let the engine play on ICC.

If these two safety functions are not in your future product, I would not buy
it. I would also encourage ICC admins to ban such commercial interfaces from
ICC without such safety functions.
