It *is* an official paper from the committee, for standard bodies do comment on
and eventually vote on for inclusion in the next C standard.

C99 is now pretty old, and the next revision is "just" a couple of years away.
This proposal has been favorably received by the committee members, meaning that
they will likely vote in favor of it, when the time comes.

Why wait with the implementation, when the direction is pretty clear?
