No, IMHO, the "Nintendo" mentality is responsible for the death of slower time control games on the Internet. Even on the Java-based servers, few people want to play timed games at anything slower than blitz: "Hay, dood, why you want to play so slow? I ain't got all day to play chess." I've also started many e-mail games at It's Your Turn in which my opponents drop out when they find out that the game won't be finished in a mere day or two (they evidently expect me to check the site every 15 minutes around the clock to see if they've made a move). Face it, we live in a culture of "instant gratification" and, IMHO, that's more the source of the problem than the fear of computer cheating.
