I would agree in principle, but there are precedents, and they usually follow a
similar pattern. When a member is persecuted or repeatedly and irrationally
antagonized in the forum, and with further e-mail evidence, it is not unheard of
to take action.
Even though this forum is open to people to join, there is no reason a member
should be subject to harassment by others, especially if the forum and the
content are the linking factors.
Let us suppose, just for argument's sake, that it is shown you did author that
e-mail. If I were a moderator, the pattern I would see is that first you
antagonized a respected member without the slightest provocation in the forum,
and then decided to take this to a further level by attacking him via e-mail.
The first alone would place you on my "troublemaker/probable troll" list, and
the second would be undoubtedly cause to ban. You'll notice the word CLUB at the
top. That's very much what this is, and as such, the main purpose of moderators
(IMHO) is to maintain a degree of civility and a sense of welcome for its
members. Don't get too caught up in the 'rules' or specifics in the charter. The
biggest rule of thumb is to use one's good sense.
