Mike, I agree with you completely. I have been testing Rybka against some of my favorite engines with a 25-position Nunn set played from both sides by each engine for 50 games total, at 3'+2". Yes, I know this is a fast time control, but I wanted to get a quick idea if Rybka was "for real". The little fish erased all of my doubts: Rybka 28.5 Fritz 9 21.5 Rybka 29 Fruit 2.2.1 21 Rybka 30.5 Shredder 9 19.5 Rybka 31.5 Junior 9 18.5 Rybka 35.5 List 5.12 14.5 Rybka 37 Pro Deo 1.1 13 Rybka 37.5 Gandalf 6 12.5 Rybka 38 Hiarcs 9 12 (I am waiting to receive my Hiarcs 10) Rybka 40.5 Ruffian 2.1 9.5 (remember when we thought Ruffie was top-notch?) As you can see, only Fritz 9 (love that engine!) and Fruit 2.2.1 even gave Rybka a match ... all others were basically steamrollered. Even Fritz 9 and Fruit 2.2.1 were not really in the match, in a competitive sense. I have never seen such a performance from a new engine, ever ... especially against the top engines in the world. Wow. When Rybka is updated to 1.2 in January, perhaps Vasik should rename it "little monster" instead of "little fish". When it has it's problems fixed, has more endgame knowledge, tablebase support, etc, it will open up a whole case of whoop ass on all of the other engines. I must say, watching the little fish play, it is like watching a human master who knows what he's doing. I've been on the receiving end of that many times in tournaments, and now Fritz, Fruit, Shredder, Hiarcs, etc, get their turn in the meat grinder. Good skill, Vasik!
