I've been using fritz shootout (engine plays self) to evaluate an opening, and noticed that what a computer engine considers to be a good opening often differs from what a human considers to be a good opening. For example, 1 e4 d6, 2) d4, nf6 3) nc3, e5 4)dxe5 dxe5 5)qxd8, kxd8 Black tends to lose in shootouts (well above 60%), but I see top gm's play the black side of this opening, even against other top GM's (e.g., see akobian game). Also, GM Roman d. recommends the opening. If you get fritz 9 to analyze it, f9 thinks it is a complete piece of shyte.. So the computers disagree with the humans. Should I drop the opening? Or should I trust the humans? If i should trust the humans, is their a reason computers are not so good at this kind of position? best joseph
