Subject: need for a universial clock:

I've noticed that different engines use time differently.(e.g., fruit 2.2 uses
it horribly in blitz). in the 4 2 setting, fritz seems to regularly use more
time in the middle game than rybka (which must increase its strength in middle
game).

I suspect that chessbase programs, in particular fritz, have the best blitz time
management. But who is really interested in how well a program manages time. It
would be nice if both programs could be forced to use the same time management
algorithim.

Forcing programs to keep to so many seconds per move does not work, since this
time control is insensitive to the complexity/criticalness of the position

Forcing programs to stop at a fixed play doesn't work, since this would
disadavantages programs that have very fast search depth..

I think if you had a universal clock, fritz 8 and 9 would not look as good in
blitz as they do now.

any thoughts!

best
