15 year old Magnus Carlsen of Norway and US citizen Gata Kamsky have secured spots in next year's candidate stage for the World Championship by securing 10th and 9th place respectively at the FIDE World Cup just completed. Kudos are also in order for Levon Aronian for capturing first place and thus 1st seed in the candidate matches. At the main site, there is interesting interview with Mikhail Gurevich - "There is nothing to be done: computers beat us" http://www.worldchesscup2005.com/main.asp?id=704 http://www.worldchesscup2005.com/main.asp?cat=0 The top 10 finishers have secured spots in the Candidate finals. Sadly for Vassily Ivanchuk, he misses qualifying for the Candiate macthes by one FIDE rating point for the Candidate Matches (assumimg Krammik and Kasparov decline) and he failed to finish in the top 10 at the World Cup. http://www.chessbase.com/eventarticle.asp?newsid=2791 best, Michael
