It has surely been proved many times now that on pure strength alone the top
engines will win against the top GM's.
The way to beat chess engines is by deliberately adopting an anti-computer
playing style ie. exploiting the weaknesses of the program (they all have them).
Look at games by Pablo Ignacio Restrepo ("Father" on Playchess.com) - he is
regularly beating Fritz 9 and Fruit playing as a human and he is a 2000 ELO
player. I know because I have been on the receving end of many defeats to him.
Before you shout....I KNOW this style of play (very closed positions that
strangle the computer's options) is not in the true chess spirit and is not
interesting to watch......
....but this thread was started off by someone asking about whther human's can
beat chess engines, not about entertaining play.
Just a thought.
