I read this on the news page on Gambitsoft --------------- Mr Sam Sloan would like a legal answer to this question, because he is planning to start a chess gambling ring on the internet. He has posted the federal legislation pertaining to this question on his web page! If you have a legal background, he kindly invites you to read the laws posted on his web site and tell him your conclusion. (We wonder if he took computer chess into account? Source: usenet news)- 3/24/99 ---------------- I am wondering how good an idea this actually is, this would be a perfect opportunity to use computers to assist in winning games over the internet. I would think that all games played over the net would have to be analysed in order to see that no cheating was going on, but still this opens up a wide hole. I think it has to be one of the most stupid ideas someone could have come up with. It is to hard to police and leaves to many holes for legal action against the gambling establishment. I mean you get accused of being aided by a computer, you can sue to show that you were not. And this is the perfect case to sue over a chess game, because money would be involved. This guy should give up
