Dear Fernando Villegas: >You are fcing a coundrum. You have always diosmissed the idea to play OPC >programs due to the fact trhey are so strong we have no chance, we lose every >game, he get disheartened and lose the pleasure of playing chess. So, yu say, >playing dedicated units that are not that strong, give you a chance, etc, is the >remedy. i will calm your concerns my MAIN reason for the preference of dedicated computers has always been to play on a real board with real pieces and it saddens me that you so easily forget this this has always been my preference and at the root of my interest i do not like to play chess on a computer screen with a mouse for me..and i realize i am in the minority here ...for me..playing chess on a PC is not chess..it is a video game however i also think as an additional advantage, that for someone who is interested in playing chess themselves..which i will add..not many here are interested in doing..then i think the dedicated units are better to improve the chess players game because even the strongest computers are not 1000 points stronger then most people interested in chess computers others will argue that the PC engines will improve a players game because they can use them to analyze positions .but i would argue this is will not improve ones play or perhaps a very small impact on improvement because the player is not THINKING for himself.. do i become a better basketball player by watching my favorite team run up and down the court on TV? i will argue i do not..i might become more knowledgeable about the game and it's strategy but i myself will not improve by watching Comforting Regards Steve
