Hi all. This is a corner badly needed here. It could be or appear that I am the only one losing or at least confessing loud my defeats and even making laugh of them, but something tell me I am not alone in this. It is only that people generally just tends to be less prone than me to despise his own paltry abilities, less prone to confess his shortcomings and less inclined to voice his lack of talent. In this last issue, thanks to long experience, I consider myself to be almost a genius. The aim of this corner will be to pinpoint the reasons why we lose to machines or programs that not even are always the very best and strongest. My credential to do this are good: I have lost games to all kind of engines, dedicated units, etc. It does not exist a machine weak enough to ensure for me a win. In fact there are only two categories: those that always kill me, 10000 times of 10000, and those that I can kill once in 5 or 10 times. So to lose is my most familiar experience in chess. I understand a lot about that difficult area of the game. I am an experienced, seasoned loser. Also a mature one; I do not bang anymore the machine or the PC. After years of average or less than average results, I already know that my mind simply does not have what is needed to be a good chess player. At the same time, I have all what is needed to understand why I lose so often, what skills I do lack, where are my many brain chessic holes. So, lets go to the very first reason why we lose to a no-that strong machine or program: WE ARE CHEATED BY A SUPPOSED PATZER. Let me explain. You begin the game with d4, the computer play g6 preparing fianchetto, then he play e6, then he play the bishop to b4, then he exchange the bishop for a knight. What do you think after that? You think the program is a moron with no idea of strategy. You think it is a lousy program. He has just exchanged the bishioop he need to cover all those black squares. And at once You lose 25% of your concentration. Even so, with the remaining 75% of atention, you handle the game good enough to win a pawn with a cheap combination. So the program is strategically busted and you have a pawn. Then you lose another 25% of concentration. After that you play and attend the phone, write a chapter of the new book, answer emails, prepare a coffee, talk with your family, etc. When You return to the board the machine has got your queen and/or is near to mate you. So you put off the bloody thing, maul yourself for your distractions, begin a new game and guess what.... The machine play a lousy openning and so you........ etc...... fernando, Loser expert
