Personally I would be in favor of authentication of ID's of posters, via a fee
that was collected via a credit card.

If you don't want to post, just join just like now and read all you want.

If you want to post, the first time you try to post it asks you for a credit
card number and charges a fee (like maybe $5), which I assume would mostly be
used to cover the cost of collecting the fee, the remainder being used to buy
Steve a few nice dinners or something.

The idea is that when you pay with a credit card, your ID is established because
your name is on the card.

If someone causes trouble, the name and the card get banned, rather than an
email address, which anyone can get hundreds of, as is evidenced by Sean Evans
and his > 91 accounts.

It would still be possible to cheat, but it would be harder. Someone has to do
some leg-work and pay $5 to take a shot at someone else at least.

I don't know if this means that posters' real names are available to everyone,
to the moderators, or just to Steve, but it could be set up any of these ways
wth no objection from me.
