When the searchable database went online, I went back and looked at the earliest posts about Toga, since I was curious about what had happened. While some of the discussion apparently took place on a German forum, the essence of what happened here was: Toga was privately submitted for testing without source (bad, but easily forgivable once corrected). I didn't see anyone say that it was explicitly claimed to be independently developed, but by at least by omission it implicitly was. When exposed, the claimed reason for the deception was that no one would test Toga if they knew the truth. This was very bad, as he was intentionally defrauding the testers of their time. Thomas posted a humble apology and published the source, which pretty much ended the matter (because what more could be asked for?), but didn't mean that everyone forgave him. Others have felt that the real reason that Thomas chose to hide the close relation to Fruit was to take the credit for himself. I myself am willing to believe Thomas' stated reason, but really I don't think it matters much either way, ethically speaking.
