At first glance, this sounds like a good idea (I even wrote two paragraphs here
on why Steve should be the only one to know personal data, for obvious reasons).

However, after more thought, I realized that the problem with such a system is
that it limits the forum. A 12 year old kid who does not have a credit card
would not be able to ask a question. A person who loves to read the posts and
only posts a couple of times a year would suddenly have to cough up a credit
card. And finally, it would turn some people off that a free forum would
suddenly charge a small fee.

So although it sounds good up front, I think a lot more thought should be put
into it.
