I decided to be brave and update my Chessbase 9 database software to the newest maintenance level 10 dated Dec 20 via playchess.com . Of course with any Chessbase update you must backup first, hope, and pray ?! One change I noticed rightaway was the Check Integrity Tool. It runs much much slower. Hmmm ....a bug was my first reaction. Upon further analysis it appears that Check Integrity has tightened up its rules for valid games. In my machine games database of over 1,000,000 games, the new version found 16 games with invalid moves that were previously undetected. Most of the bad games had an illegal move at the end of the game, so it was a simple task to fix the game or just delete it. Thanks for this improvement Chessbase ! My only suggestion would be to notify your customers in some public way of what changes to expect with software upgrades. For example see www.rybkachess.com . Unfortunately, my years of experience with CB tells me that this will never happen.
