Subject: If you want a challenge play Fischer/Kaufman random chess at 1min/game

If you want to give your mind a real workout then you should try playing your
chess program set to Fischer Random chess set to 1 min per game. You will see
that your hopes of winning will approach zero. It is almost as much fun as
Quake.

If you have cardiac or nervous disorders it is not a good idea to play such
stressful games. You can die from too much mental stress. If you have a friend
with a weak heart you should not play blitz/lightning chess with him/her. I
took a chess computer to a medical ward and played a post-myocardial infarct
patient at short time controls. His EKG became erratic and his cardiac muscle
suffered ischemia. Mercifully, I conceded the game and told him that he
outplayed the machine. His EKG remained abnormal for another ten minutes. He
was happy but he could have died happy.

I don't play games with cardiac patients anymore. It is not any fun to run a
resuscitation code on a person who you just wanted to cheer up.

Thank you,

Tim Frohlick
