It looks like it might be the most interesting year since computer chess started. There were Deep blue matches, and there was the time when PC programs overtook dedicated programs in rating. But certainly nothing better than 2006 for atleast 12 years, (and arguably longer). I was actually waiting for this. A kind of breakthrough, perhaps. But I wonder if it will continue at this rate in 2007-8 etc. Might it? Or will the new young talents do their job now, and then it will take another long time to make another breakthrough (with less of a breakthrough left to make, and harder to do so. And then the only thing lacking might be real human planning and vision, which has not seemed ever possible to some experts)? S.Taylor
