Go up one level in this thread

Ok, we can pardon you this time. But this corner is not simply to show games
that went badly, but to discuss the reasons behind the lose.
Let us see another one.
Yesterday I lost a game to Chesster, this one playinmg at his a6 level, 2
minutes per move in average. At that level it plays strong, as it is in fact the
excelent Par Excellence program running with a somewhat slower processor.
What happened that I lost the game?
Tireness.
At around move 30 I had a better position thanks to a very concentrated game
along an openning line not too much known by me. I suppose I burned most of my
strenght in this phase of the game to avoid inferiority. Even more, I was
better, not hugely better but better, so the moment came to make an extra effort
of concentration and find the due tactics to harvest the advantage.
That moment of extra effort coincided, nevertheles, with my tireness. I was
already worn out.
So I did try hard, but my brains simply has not anymore the stamina of youth.
Not that I fell aslept, but I lost a degree of attention. My game begun to waver
a bit. Not much, but losing some time. Losing chances. Little by little I became
prone to play suboptimal moves. And I became somewhat irritated by the solid,
rocky defense of the beast. Lazyness instaled and I calculated less moves in
every branch. I prunned too much.
And so I lost a pawn.
After that I tried hard again, but to not avail. Par Excellence program knows
how to make profit of just one pawn. I realized my defeat was sure, just a
matter of time.
So a clear slackening of heart and faith installed on me and my play became even
more prone to failures. I felt I was already defeated and so it was.
I surrendered after a sorrowful defense in move 60 or so.

Then, lesson 2: at 56 years of age you have not anymore what is needed to play a
better than 1800 elo player beyond move 30. Or you get it then or you will not.
At least no if you are not Korchnoi.

My best
fernando
