Yes it is. And on the practical side it requires much fewer mouse clicks to
follow new posts, not to mention the far superior searching, attachments for PGN
files etc.

When reading a post the whole thread is displayed, but if there is a new post
you are taken directly to it, not unlike clicking on individual posts. Then
there is a button to take you to the next new post. Of course (if you log on)
you can also use the "New" button to see a threaded display of all new posts
since your last visit.

I have used CCC, CSS and many other threaded forums. Just like you "in a strange
way" I liked the old-fashioned threaded forums. I still wouldn't consider
anything but a threaded forum, but after running a chess forum for half a year
using the new software I will never look back, neither as an admin nor as a
user.
