Hi Stuart, of course there are some technical better boardscripts, like - vBulletin - Invisionboard These scripts are the state of art and are much more userfriendly in my opinion. They offer the users a bunch of useful features like - two or three ways of representation (threaded, flat, hybrid) - Printing and emailing opportunities of the thread, some boardscripts are also able to convert the thread to a pdf-file... - Excellent use of RSS-Feeds - Very good functional search - Bookmarking a thread - Powerful Admin-Tools - Much better formating of the text, so it is much easier to read. - Possibility of individual hacks, like inserting diagramms, playable games in the board - Automatic links - file attachments - and so on BUT, here at CCC and at some other boards like CSS this kind of board is used for many years, and the most users feel comfortable with it. I think the most of user do not know the advantages of a modern board. and some of them do not want to change anything. We are testing a new software at CSS Online (www.computerschach.de) and we've got some very heavy discussion with some users about why we want to change. These discussions were very helpful to improve the script, but it is a hard peace of work to convince some users. In my opinion the modern boards offer so many advantages so it is worth of the discussion and the work. BTW, I would not recommend the phpBB, because it isn't as stable as vBulletin and there are more security issues about phpBB than about vBulletin.
