Since then I have taken my chess forum from this type of design to mwForum. My users are still thanking me for this step and the forum is being used more now than ever. I can understand that it is hard for old-timers to let go off something they are used to and has been working well for them. I was in that same position six months ago and tested many forum software packages trying to find something that worked like the old forum but was a bit more flexible. After a lot of testing I decided to look at some other designs, although a threaded forum was a fixed requirement. I don't regret that, but it was not an easy decision at that time. I can understand others who are not prepared to make such a "bold" move! :) Regarding your test forum, I'm sure you will be happy with it. However, you should be aware that phpBB has had some bad security problems this year, with new vulnerabilities reported as recently as last month.
